April 10, 2012 – Louisville, Ky. – A young girl was struck by a vehicle in an intersection on Monday, April 9.
Wave 3 reports that the accident happened at about 5:30 p.m. at the intersection of Buechel Bank Road and Sanford. Family members said the Aiyana Osburn, 7, was hit by a vehicle in the intersection after she had exited off of a city bus.
Tiffany Ghode was holding on to Osubrn’s hand when a Monte Carlo sped pass them and struck the little girl. Osburn was injured in the accident and had to be transported to a local hospital, where she later died from her head wounds.
The driver of the vehicle that struck Osburn was taken in by police that evening after the accident. He was found to be driving with a suspended license and without insurance while on his way to a college course.
According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s 2009 Kentucky Crash Statistics, there were 791 fatalities as a result of traffic accidents in Kentucky.
