According to Officer Dwight Mitchell, a Louisville Metro Police spokesman, a fatal Kentucky truck accident took place at approximately 12:30 PM on Thursday, July 23, 2009 between LaGrange and Westport roads.  The crash involved a black Nissan that hit the back of a Kentucky Transportation Cabinet truck that was spraying weed killer on the side of the road.

Mitchell said that the driver of the Nissan sustained fatal injuries and died at the scene of the accident.  He was the only one in the car at the time of the crash and his name has not been released.

The driver of the transportation truck was taken to University Hospital for treatment for his non-life threatening injuries.

The metro traffic unit is in charge of investigating this fatal crash.  They have been interviewing witnesses to find out whether the truck was using flashing lights or some type of warning signal to alert drivers, when the accident took place.  The transportation truck appears to have been partly on the shoulder and partly in the right lane at the time of the accident.

Northbound lanes of the Gene Snyder Freeway between LaGrange and Westport roads were closed for more than three hours following the crash.
