Woman Killed in DUI Crash, Driver Charged with Cocaine

May 1, 2012 – Louisville, Ky. – A woman was fatally injured when her vehicle was hit by a drunk driver travelling in the wrong direction on the road early Sunday morning, April 29.

WHAS11 reports that the incident happened shortly after 2 a.m. on South Hurstbourne Parkway. Officials said that a Toyota Camry driven by Maynor Gonzalez-Munoz, 32, was travelling in the wrong direction on the roadway when it collided head on with a Honda Civic.

The Civic’s driver, Ashley Martinez, 23, of Louisville, was killed in the accident. She was declared dead at the site.

Munoz was first transported to a local hospital. He was later charged with DUI, vehicular homicide and possession of cocaine.

No other vehicles were involved in the collision and there were no other passengers in either of the vehicles. No other injuries or fatalities have been brought forth.

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s 2009 Kentucky Crash Statistics, there were 791 fatalities as a result of traffic accidents in Kentucky.
