March 21, 2012 – Monroe County, Ky. – A man suffered fatal wounds and another was injured in a single-vehicle car crash early in the morning on Saturday, March 17.
WKYT reports that the accident happened at about 2:30 a.m. on Ky. 87, near the Fountain Run Community. A Chevrolet S10 pickup truck was travelling northbound on the road when its driver lost control, resulting in it to crash into an earthen embankment.
The pickup truck’s driver, Arnulfo Alva Facio, 34, of Fountain Run, was thrown from the vehicle on impact. He was pronounced dead at the scene. Facio was reported to not be wearing a seat belt at the time of the accident.
A passenger in Facio’s vehicle, Mario Alejandre, 34, was wounded in the accident and had to be taken to a local hospital. He has since been treated and released.
Reckless driving due to alcohol impairment combined with speeding was determined to be factors.
According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s 2009 Kentucky Crash Statistics, there were 791 fatalities as a result of traffic accidents inKentucky.
