Man Suffers Seizure Causing Fatal Louisville Accident

December 8, 2011 – Louisville, Ky. – Police in Jeffersonville have confirmed that the driver of pick-up truck had a seizure before causing a fatal accident on Friday, December 2.

reports that the accident happened on the Second Street Bridge. The truck’s driver, Lawrence Johnson, began to seizure, while his passenger, Allan McMonigle, fought him for the steering wheel. They were unable to stop the pick-up before it crashed into a Ford Taurus head on.

The Taurus’s driver, Stacy Ellison, 37, was killed in the accident. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

Johnson and McMonigle were reported to have suffered injuries in the accident. They are said to have sustained hip and upper leg injuries.

The bridge was blocked to traffic for about 3 hours following the accident. Crews were able to get the bridge reopened in time for rush hour.

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s 2009 Kentucky Crash Statistics, there were 791 fatalities as a result of traffic accidents in Kentucky.
