University Student Dies in Fatal Motorcycle Crash in Lexington, KY

April 23, 2012 – Lexington, Ky. – AUniversity of Kentucky student was involved in a fatal motorcycle accident on Friday, April 20.

According to a news story reported on WHAS11, the incident happened at around 2 a.m. on New Circle Road in Lexington. Austin Armstrong, 19, was driving his motorcycle on the road when he lost control, overcorrected and crashed. Witnesses say he was speeding.

Armstrong was rushed to UK’s Chandler Hospital right away after the accident occurred. He died in the hospital less than 4 hours later.

The accident report dose not indicates that any other vehicles were involved in the crash. No additional injuries or fatalities have been brought forth.

The crash remains under investigation.

Based on the news report, Armstrong is the second of 2 Lafayette High School students that died on New Circle Road in the past 2 weeks. The other was Aubrey Hounshell, who died when her car overturned on the ramp.

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s 2009 Kentucky Crash Statistics, there were 791 fatalities as a result of traffic accidents in Kentucky.
