2 Killed After Car Hits Tree Near Bowling Green

August 5, 2011 – Bowling Green, Ky – Two men were killed Thursday, August 4, when their vehicle crashed into a tree on the outskirts of Bowling Green.

WHAS11 reports that the accident occurred when cousins William Mallory, 19, of La Center, and Richard Benton Page, 18, of Bowling Green, were driving along a highway when their vehicle went off of a curve in the roadway before it crashed into a tree.

Officials said that both men were killed in the crash. They were reported dead at the scene.

According to Kentucky State Police Trooper Jonathan Biven, both victims had seat belts on at the time of the accident. Excessive speed was indicated as the main cause in the accident.

William Mallory was the son of WPSD-TV morning anchorman Mike Mallory and an honors student at the University of Kentucky. Page was a student at Western Kentucky University.

The accident is under ongoing investigation by authorities in Warren County.

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s 2009 Kentucky Crash Statistics, there were 791 fatalities as a result of traffic accidents in Kentucky.
