Injury Resulted When School Bus Crashes in St. Matthews

January 25, 2012 – St. Matthews, Ky. – A person was injured in a school bus accident early on Monday morning, January 23.

reports that the accident occurred at the intersection of Shelbyville Road and Hubbards Lane. The incident was reported shortly after 7:30 a.m. The JCPS bus, No. 9972, was involved in an accident in the intersection. Exactly how many other vehicles were involved in the crash is unclear at the moment.

According to JCPS spokesperson Ben Jackey, the bus was travelling away from Waggener High School at the time of the occurrence and that it had already dropped off its load of students.

St. Matthews police said that a person on the bus was injured in the accident. Whether that was the bus driver or a passenger is unclear.

Further details concerning this accident are not yet available. The accident is under ongoing investigation by local authorities.

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s 2009 Kentucky Crash Statistics, there were 791 fatalities as a result of traffic accidents in Kentucky.
