March 20, 2012 – Louisville, Ky. – A person was injured when their motorcycle crashed off an interstate ramp on Sunday, March 18.
WAVE 3 reports that the accident happened on the ramp from 9th Street onto Interstate 64. Police said that a motorcycle was traveling on the roadway when its driver lost control and crashed on the ramp. The driver was thrown over an embankment on impact and landed on 8th Street.
The motorcyclist was injured in the accident and had to be transported to University Hospital to receive medical treatment. The extent of his injuries is unknown at this time.
According to a witness on the scene, the motorcyclist was travelling at a high rate of speed when the incident happened. Reports indicate that he was wearing a helmet. The accident is further being investigated by officials with the LMPD traffic unit.
According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s 2009 Kentucky Crash Statistics, there were 791 fatalities as a result of traffic accidents in Kentucky.
