Man Faces DUI in Louisville Accident After Drinking Over 20 Beers

August 17, 2011 – Louisville, Ky. – Christopher Abbott, 33, was arrested Sunday, August 14, after he admitted to drinking 20-25 beers before being involved in a car accident.

WLKY reports that the accident happened shortly before 3 p.m. on Westport Road. Abbott took off on foot, fleeing the scene of the accident. He leapt over several razor-wired fences in his flight.

Police officers found Abbott on Northumberland Drive. Abbott admitted to both his involvement in the accident and the consumption of alcohol prior to the accident. When asked how much alcohol he had consumed, Abbott told officers that he had drank 20-25 beers. Abbott went on to say that he ran off because he had been drinking and his license was suspended.

Police described Abbott as having a strong odor of alcohol, glassy eyes, slurred speech and a tendency to repeat statements several times. Abbott’s blood-alcohol content was 0.294%.

Abbott was treated by Emergency Medical Services for injuries he sustained while jumping the razor-wire fences.

Abbott has been charged with DUI, driving with a suspended license, and leaving the scene of an accident.

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s 2009 Kentucky Crash Statistics, there were 791 fatalities as a result of traffic accidents in Kentucky.
