Two cars were involved in a McCracken County Kentucky car crash on Monday, January 28, 2013. The alleged crash occurred shortly before 2:30 p.m. on Benton Road near the Food Giant. According to accident reports, 66-year-old Bobby Summers of Benton was driving a 1994 GMC pickup truck and hit a 2003 GMC Yukon from behind. The Yukon was being driven by 34-year-old Amanda Kennedy of Paducah, Kentucky.
Mr. Summers, Ms. Kennedy, and Ms. Kennedy’s passenger, 68-year-old Gladys Helton, also of Paducah, were taken to a local hospital emergency room for treatment of their accident injuries.
In 2011, the most recent year for which the Kentucky State Police have issued final crash data, 38% of all two-vehicle accidents were rear-end accidents, such as the one reported in McCracken County on January 28. During 2011, there were 29,254 rear-end accidents in the Commonwealth of Kentucky and a total of 229,549 vehicles involved in all types of Kentucky motor vehicle collisions. In McCracken County alone there were 2,169 accidents during 2011.
