McCracken County Car Crash Sends 3 to the Hospital

Two cars were involved in a McCracken County Kentucky car crash on Monday, January 28, 2013. The alleged crash occurred shortly before 2:30 p.m. on Benton Road near the Food Giant. According to accident reports, 66-year-old Bobby Summers of Benton was driving a 1994 GMC pickup truck and hit a 2003 GMC Yukon from behind. The Yukon was being driven by 34-year-old Amanda Kennedy of Paducah, Kentucky.

Mr. Summers, Ms. Kennedy, and Ms. Kennedy’s passenger, 68-year-old Gladys Helton, also of Paducah, were taken to a local hospital emergency room for treatment of their accident injuries.

In 2011, the most recent year for which the Kentucky State Police have issued final crash data, 38% of all two-vehicle accidents were rear-end accidents, such as the one reported in McCracken County on January 28. During 2011, there were 29,254 rear-end accidents in the Commonwealth of Kentucky and a total of 229,549 vehicles involved in all types of Kentucky motor vehicle collisions. In McCracken County alone there were 2,169 accidents during 2011. That was an increase over the 2,127 McCracken County accidents reported in 2010. 12 people were killed and 838 people were injured in the 2011 McCracken County crashes.
