Motorcycle Crash in Daviess County, KY: 1 Fatality, 1 Injury

April 5, 2012 – Daviess County, Ky. – A man was killed and another was seriously injuries in a fatal motorcycle crash on Wednesday, April 4.

Tristate Homepage reports that the accident occurred on River Road. A motorcycle was travelling westbound on the roadway when its driver failed to negotiate a curve and went off the road. The motorcycle crashed into a ditch, rolled twice before hitting a tree.

The driver and a passenger were both thrown from the vehicle on impact. The driver, Russell Hoyt, Sr. died at the scene.

The passenger, Roger Hunnicut, was rushed to Owensboro Medical Health System immediately following the crash to receive medical assistance. His injuries are said to be serious.

The cause of the accident remains to be determined. Sheriff’s deputies are waiting for the results of toxicology tests to determine whether or not alcohol was a factor. The Daviess County Sheriff’s Department continues to investigate.

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s 2009 Kentucky Crash Statistics, there were 791 fatalities as a result of traffic accidents in Kentucky.
