Perry County Car Crash Takes Life of Kentucky Man

A Yerkes man was pronounced dead at the scene of a Perry County car accident late last month. The reported accident occurred on Friday March 22, 2013 shortly before seven in the morning.

According to the Kentucky State Police, a vehicle driven by 25-year-old Jordan Shepard, of Jeff, crossed the center line of Route 7 in Fusonia and collided with a vehicle driven by 59-year-old Dwight Eversole, of Yerkes. It is currently unclear what caused Mr. Shepard to cross the center line of the road. Hazard ARH transported Mr. Shepard to the hospital for treatment of his accident injuries. Mr. Eversole was reportedly pronounced dead at the scene of the accident.

721 people died in Kentucky motor vehicle accidents during 2011 (the most recent year for which complete statistics are available). Seven people died in seven separate Perry County accidents that year. In total, there were 868 motor vehicle crashes in Perry County during 2011 that resulted in the seven fatalities and 326 injuries.

The cause of the March 22, 2013 fatal, two-car crash in Perry County remains under investigation by the Kentucky State Police. So far, police have just reported the identities of those involved in the crash and that neither driver was wearing a seat belt at the time of the accident.
