Woman Killed When Car Flips Into Pond in Menifee County

November 9, 2011 – Menifee County, Ky. – A woman was fatally injured when her car overturned and crashed into a pond on Monday, November 7.

reports that the accident happened early Monday morning on the roadway. Local officials said that the vehicle was driving on the roadway when it swerved in attempt to avoid a horse. The vehicle then overturned, landing upside-down in a nearby pond.

The vehicle’s driver, Rebecca Rowe, 56, had sustained fatal injuries in the accident. Kentucky State Police said that she was unable to free herself from her seat belt and drowned.

A passenger in Rowe’s vehicle was able to escape from the car. The passenger was transported to a local hospital to be treated for non-life threatening injuries. According to officials on the scene, the passenger was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the accident.

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s 2009 Kentucky Crash Statistics, there were 791 fatalities as a result of traffic accidents in Kentucky.
