According to national statistics, there are approximately 1.4 million people per year who suffer a brain injury or traumatic brain injury (“TBI”) each year. Among those injured:
(a) 50,000 with traumatic brain injury die;
(b) 235,000 suffering from brain injuries are hospitalized; and
(c) 1.1 million with varying degrees of brain injury are treated and/or released from an emergency department or hospital.
Unfortunately, and not surprisingly, the number of people with a brain injury who are not seen in an emergency room, hospital or have not received any medical care or treatment is unknown.
