October 14, 2011 - Shelby County, Ky. - An accident involving 2 tractor trailers and a pickup truck ended with 2 people being taken to the hospital on Thursday, October 13.

WAVE 3
reports that the accident happened shortly after 9 p.m. on Interstate 64 underneath the Highway 53 overpass. Kentucky State Police said that a pickup truck and a tractor trailer collided while travelling east on the interstate. Both vehicles ran off of the roadway and into the median before crashing into a middle wall of the overpass.

The driver of a tractor trailer that was driving in the westbound lanes saw the first 2 vehicles crash and, thinking that they would travel into the westbound lanes, swerved to avoid them. As a result, the westbound tractor trailer also wrecked.

Following the accident, a person had to be flown to University of Louisville Hospital. Another person was also transported to the hospital for examination. There's no word on either of the victim's conditions.

The accident remains under investigation.
