Man Dies when Motorcycle Hits SUV in Jefferson County

June 18, 2012 – Jefferson County, Ky. – A man was killed when his motorcycle collided with an SUV in a JeffersonCounty intersection Saturday, June 16.

WHAS11 reports that the accident happened at about 6 p.m. at the intersection of Green Belt Highway and Tradeport Drive. According to police at the scene, Cody Sinkhorn, 26, was one of several motorcyclists that were passing through the intersection. Sinkhorn was at the end of the group and ran a red light, causing his motorcycle to crash into an SUV.

Sinkhorn did have a helmet on, but was killed in the accident. He was pronounced dead at the scene. It seems that none of the other motorcyclists were involved in the accident.

The driver of the SUV suffered minor injuries and had to be transported to a local hospital for treatment. Officials with the Louisville Metro Police Department said that the driver will not be charged in connection with this crash, which is under ongoing investigation.

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration‘s 2010 Kentucky Crash Statistics, there were 760 fatalities as a result of traffic accidents in Kentucky.
