January 9, 2012 – LaRue County, Ky. – An elementary school principal was killed in a single-vehicle car accident early Saturday, January 7.
WHAS11 indicates that the accident happened at about 5 a.m. on State Route 84, a mile west of Hodgenville. Kentucky State Police said that Amber Thurman, 47, was driving her vehicle on the roadway when it drifted across the center line. Thurman then overcorrected, causing her vehicle to crash into an embankment and overturn.
Thurman was fatally injured in the accident and died at the scene.
According to the LaRue County School’s website, Thurman was the principal of Abraham Lincoln Elementary School in Hodgenville.
Thurman’s vehicle was the only one involved in the crash and there were no other passengers in the vehicle. No further injuries or fatalities have been brought forth in connection with this accident.
According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s 2009 Kentucky Crash Statistics, there were 791 fatalities as a result of traffic accidents in Kentucky.
